For the first time since the beginning of the Corona pandemic a live concert took place in the Jazztone in Lörrach on Friday the 23rd of October. The Brazilian singer Nice Brazil and her band offered happiness and a positive outlook via Brazilian rhythms and swing. While only very few listeners were allowed to enter the jazz club, founded in 1956, at a reasonable distance, others were offered participation via livestream. Not surprisingly, the club founder and chairman, Werner Büche, was very happy to finally be able to offer a concert in the club again, and Nice Brazil said she was really looking forward to performing live again. Earlier in the year, Nice had released a new album, "Minhas Raizes", in English "My roots", from which she sourced most of the songs during this evening. With her on the bandstand were the fantastic Olivier Ker Ourio from Paris with his harmonica, an instrument not often heard during Jazz concert, Ricardo Fiuza on piano, the local authority on bass Stephan Kurmann and Christoph Holzhauser on drums. Below are a few impressions from this touching high-energy memorable event. - On another note: "Jazz Lives in Clubs. The Pandemic Is Threatening Its Future" is the title of an alarming New York Times article from September 8, 2020. "The concert world as a whole is in crisis, but perhaps no genre is as vulnerable as jazz, which depends on a fragile ecosystem of performance venues". - The Jazztone in Lörrach is one of the few venues which was open again to a reduced audience providing the experience to see and listen to the play of musicians and connect with them. I can not imagine a world without Jazz clubs, please keep supporting them as much as you can during these times.
